Cup Cake Wars Highlight Week 3

A Rainy Day Could Not dampen NLDC’s Spirits!

A Great session to start today with My Remarkable Self (www.myremarkableself.com) on self-esteem and the impact or power of words and actions on other’s.  The session began with two ice breakers to reinforce building friendships, listening and communication skills.  Ask the girls about the bean bag toss and Ships and Sails.

We then did an activity called “Take a piece of my heart”  This is a powerful activity that illustrates clearly the long lasting affects of negative interactions and words on people’s self-esteem.  It provoked a thoughtful discussion amongst the groups and we asked the girls to think about the impact of their words and actions on other’s throughout the day, camp week and life.  We then had them create in smaller groups role-plays where they chose a scenario to act out based on a difficult situation at school, camp or playground involving friendships.  They had to also come up with a positive solution.

Despite a bit of rain to start the afternoon, our Camp Wide Activity included several minute-to-win-it games such as balancing dice on a Popsicle stick, throwing marshmallows into a cup and transferring skittles to a different location using only a straw.

The second day of week 3 was another success here at NLDC. We cannot wait to see everyone’s wacky outfits for tomorrow!
